The APQ in parliamentary committee for Bill n°492: An Act to amend the Civil Code to protect seniors’ rights as lessees

The Association of Quebec Landlords (APQ) will be heard in September on the Bill tabled by Mrs Françoise David in the spring to restrict repossession which is a fundamental right of any owner of rental housing.

In reading the draft law the APQ understands that one wishes to drastically restrict the right of owners, the conditions of repossession and evictions.

The APQ in parliamentary committee for Bill 54: An Act to improve the legal situation of animals

The Association of Quebec Landlords (APQ) was adopted in committee to hear the views of the owners as one of the items legislated by the Bill is the abandonment of animals in a housing.

For owners of rental properties it is appreciated that greater accountability has been put into place for people who abandon their animals in their dwelling. Because each year many owners carry the heavy burden of managing a painful situation, both emotionally and operationally: we open the door of the housing and find that there are animals inside whereas the housing is empty.

The APQ made itself heard in parliamentary committee on Bill 44, An Act to bolster tobacco control

Published on by Communication service

According to Statistics Canada data, smoking is experiencing a slight decrease in Canada and Quebec since 2012. Thus, 19.6% of Quebecers aged 12 and older were smokers in 2014, while the rate is 18.1% for all of Canada.

The APQ is interested in the extent of the restrictions on the electronic cigarette by which the draft Act aims to assimilate its use to smoking. Because of its harmful effects and situations where batteries have exploded causing injuries the APQ agrees with the fact that the electronic cigarette should be subject to the same prohibitions as tobacco.
