Canadian home sales edge higher in June

The number of home sales processed through the MLS® Systems of Canadian real estate Boards and Associations rose 0.8 per cent on a month-over-month basis in June 2014, marking the fifth consecutive monthly increase and the highest level for sales since March 2010.

Housing starts in Québec's urban centres were trending at 34,793 units in June,  compared to  35,118  in  May,  according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Building permits, May 2014

Municipalities issued building permits worth $6.9 billion in May, up 13.8% from April. This followed a 2.2% rise in the previous month. The increase in May resulted primarily from higher construction intentions for commercial buildings in Ontario and Manitoba, as well as multi-family dwellings in British Columbia. The total value of permits has been on a slight upward trend since the beginning of 2014.
