Think twice before hiring a contractor - contractor permit constructions

Think twice before hiring a contractor

Whether it is for repair in an apartment or for one’s own dwelling, some homeowners may be tempted to do business with a friend or someone who has been referred to them, a person who does not have a certificate of qualification or the required permits.

It is important, however, to remember that quality of service as well as competence should be given priority in the selection of a worker. In some situations the law also requires that the worker has a certificate of competency issued by the Commission de la Construction du Québec (CCQ) and that the contractor has an appropriate contractor’s license issued by the Régie du Bâtiment du Québec (RBQ), depending on the nature of the work. Some work therefore can not legally be done by yourself or by any handyman. In addition, not doing business with a qualified contractor may cost more in the end and bring more problems than benefits.
